SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE HIKE: This track is a challenging multi-day hike within the boundaries of Te Urewera National Park. Home to the mysterious Maori tribe of Ngai Tuhoe – the ‘Children of the Mist’, this track leads ambitious hikers through pristine rainforest, rejuvenating wetlands, and what is often described as a mystical ‘goblin forest’. It mostly follows the shores of the great lake but hikers will also encounter enchanting waterfalls, ghostly valleys of mist, and natural rock lookouts with long-range scenic views.
